Whenever I see sculptures from the Renaissance and beyond, I am fascinated by artists’ understanding and portrayal of the human form in 3D. I enjoy using sculpture to examine human life in its 3D form, beyond what is possible on canvas. Growing up in the age of social media inspired me to create this piece as a response to the complications of having a female body. I wanted to highlight the contrast between the rigidity of how many people think about body image, and the actual human form by blending hard, twisted wire and a soft tape measure. The tape measure features different sizing systems associated with women’s clothing. Sizing is bizarre, yet it has so much control over so many people, including myself.
